Free live music at the Kapiolani Bandstand in Waikiki
Posted by Unknown | Saturday, February 1, 2014

Here's a fun, free activity for the whole family when staying at one of our vacation rental units in Waikiki

Every Friday night between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm listen to Hawaii's finest musicians perform live at the Kapiolani Bandstand in Waikiki.    On Sundays the Royal Hawaiian Band performs from 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm.  The Royal Hawaiian Band was formed in 1836 by King Kamehamea III and is now the only full time municipal band in the United States.  The Victorian-style bandstand was built in the 1890's and is used on a regular basis as a venue for Waikiki's live music events,  all of which are free to the public.
It's on Kalakaua Avenue, just past Monserrat Avenue and the Zoo entrance.  There are also ponds with ducks in them and bronze statues both in the water and on the grass at the edges of the water.   Seating is bench seats or soft grass with trees for shade in case you want to bring a picnic.  Plus, the beach is right across the street so the kids can snorkel and boogie board before the music.  If you are hungry and didn't bring a picnic, the Barefoot Beach Cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is also across the street on the ocean side of the park.

So, be sure to bring the family and enjoy the history, culture, architecture, and music of old and new Honolulu while you are in town!  You will be glad you did.
