Art on the Zoo fence in Waikiki Saturday and Sunday
Posted by Unknown | Friday, April 11, 2014

Another great free activity for the whole family is checking out the local artists who display their works on the back fence of the Honolulu Zoo.  It happens every Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monsarrat Avenue across from the Kapiolani Park Bandstand.

Discover the colorful richness of Hawaii through the eyes of a variety of artists. These artists will personally introduce you to their work in the splendor of an outdoor setting, in the shade of lovely Banyan trees.   You can watch them complete new works right before your eyes!

The art show is within walking distance of most of our vacation rentals, with the closest ones being the Cabana at Waikiki, the Waikiki Banyan, and the Waikiki Sunset.  Here are some pics I took while walking past last weekend:

There are both originals and prints at a variety of prices so anyone can find something special to take home as a souvenir or a gift.  There are note cards and smaller prints that fit easily into a suitcase or carry-on.

Art on the Zoo fence has been a tradition in Waikiki for over 50 years!
The Zoo Fence Artists is a non-profit group of local artists. The group contributes annually to various organizations to promote arts education for children.

The Art at the Zoo Fence is one of Hawaii’s lasting treasures and offers a wide variety of styles and subjects appealing to all ages.  Kids will love the cartoon type art and maybe even be inspired to create some art themselves.  I know it inspired me to look into local painting classes myself!
