Army Museum at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki
Posted by Unknown | Sunday, January 12, 2014

For history buffs, I recommend stopping by the U.S. Army Museum at Fort DeRussy Recreation Area in Waikiki on Kalia Road
The biggest artifact is the building it is housed in.  It's called Battery Randolph, a massive reinforced concrete emplacement with roofs as much as 12 feet thick. The battery was built around 1911 for two 14 inch guns that could fire projectiles as far as 14 miles. It was part of a coastal defense system that was to protect Honolulu Harbor from invasion.  Inside it includes exhibits about Hawaiian Warfare, as well as US, Japan, and Korean military items and pictures.

Admission is FREE and it's open 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday.  It's within one mile of our vacation rental units at the Waikiki Marina, the Ilikai Marina, Discovery Bay and Canterbury Place, and many more!
