Makiki Loop Trail just east of Waikiki
Posted by Unknown | Sunday, November 24, 2013

For those nature lovers staying at our Waikiki Vacation Rentals, here is an easy hike just minutes from the heart of Waikiki.  It's called Makiki Loop Trail.  It takes about an hour and a half from start to finish, and is a great free activity on Oahu that's fun for the whole family.  I went with some friends recently and took these pics along the way.  It takes just 10 minutes to drive there and suddenly we were worlds away in a lush, tropical jungle with babbling brooks and exotic birds chirping around us!

LENGTH: 2.5 miles
HOW TO GET THERE: From Waikiki, take Ala Wai Boulevard to Kalaukaua Avenue and turn right. Go right at South King Street, and immediately turn left onto Punahou street. Go left at Nehoa Street, and take the second right onto Makiki Street, veering left onto Makiki Heights Drive. Just before the road curves sharply left, go strait into the Makiki Valley State Recreation Area. Reach a designated gravel parking lot on the left and proceed up the road on foot to the Hawaii Nature Center, and follow the signs to the trail.
