Artfest International in Waikiki
Posted by Unknown | Monday, February 17, 2014

Here's a free activity in Waikiki for the whole family that's coming up this Saturday, February 22nd.  It's the Artfest International which takes place from 9:00a.m. to 4:00 p.m.in Kapiolani Park at 2801 Monsarrat Avenue, just past the Honolulu Zoo at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki.

This event features the fine art and handcrafted products of more than 75 Hawaii artists, including all types of jewelry, clothing, ceramics, stained glass, wood products, soaps and candles, quilts and bags.  There will be live entertainment and great food, including a fresh fruit area and Shave Ice booth.   I always enjoy having an ice cold, fresh coconut cut open for me so I can drink the coconut water fresh out of the shell.  When finished, bring the empty shell back to the vendor and they will cut out the flesh of the coconut so you can eat that as well.  It's really delicious.  Just remember, pure coconut is a laxative so don't eat too much at once. :)

All items are displayed for sale by the artist personally.  It's a great spot to pick up unique souvenirs and gifts for friends back home as well as for yourself!  I recently bought some cute silver and fresh water pearl earrings and was telling the artist I wish they had lever backs so that they can't fall off and she said "I can change them to that type of back for you!" and she did.  That's the benefit of the actual artists being there.  You can custom order something and even watch them make the item right there!

If you are staying at our vacation rental units at the Royal Moana, the Waikiki Banyan, the Waikiki Sunset, or many others, then you are about a 10-20 minute walk to the park.  If you are staying at our units at the Waikiki Marina, the Ilikai Hotel or Ilikai Marina, there's metered parking around the park for $.50/hour or the local buses will take you there for $2.50 per person, one way fare.  Bus #19 stops on Monsarrat Avenue and runs on Kuhio Avenue, past most of our units, including the Royal Kuhio, the Marine Surf, the Pacific Monarch, and others.

Let us know what fun stuff you find and post a pic with a message to our Facebook page!
