Historic Carnival this weekend near Waikiki
Posted by Unknown | Thursday, February 6, 2014

Tomorrow is the first day of the Annual Punahou Carnival.  It's a great event for the whole family and is just a few minutes by car, cab, or city bus from our vacation rental units at the Royal Moana, the Royal Kuhio, the Waikiki Banyan, and many more. There will be over 60 booths with rides, live music, a white elephant sale, and much more.  It will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday,  February 7th and 8th.

This Nationally Registered Historic Place is the largest independent school in the U.S. and dates back to 1841.   Past alumni of Punahou include President Barack Obama and Hawaiian Prince Kuhio.  Sports Illustrated awarded Punahou the Best Sports Program in the country and in 2006 it was named "The Greenest school in America".  That could be because for most of the school's history elementary students were allowed to attend school barefoot.

This year's theme is New York, New York: The Carnival that Never Sleeps.  Proceeds from the carnival contribute to the Financial Aid program so it's a great place to spend some money and have a great day out with the family.

There are rides and midway games and even a water balloon booth where you get to target the students!

While there, check out the Art Gallery which will feature over 1,000 works by over 300 local artists including paintings, ceramics, wood bowls, sculptures, jewelry, and other original fine art pieces.
