Posted by Unknown | Wednesday, February 19, 2014

Do you love chocolate?  If so, this weekend bring the whole family to the Hawaii Chocolate Festival on Saturday, February 22nd and support the agricultural crop that only grows in Hawaii out of all the 50 states!

It will be held just a short distance from Waikiki at the Dole Cannery Shops at 650 Iwilei Road.  You can get there from our vacation rental units at the Ala Moana Hotel, the Ilikai Hotel, the Ilikai Marina, the Waikiki Marina or others  by the #19 bus.  Or, if you will be driving a car there you will find validated parking in the attached parking garage.

There will be over 30 vendors showcasing their local products in addition to cooking demonstrations, a hula dance demonstration, and classes on cacao by local growers.  The ticket price of $25 at the door or $20 in advance includes all the above plus 10 tastings and live music by local artists such as Jeff Peterson.

I can't wait to taste everything!  Here is a pic of some of the truffles that are made in Kailua.  The truffle flavors also include passionfruit, strawberry guava, mango mint, coconut with kaffir, chai, and hibiscus.  Several restaurants will be showcasing their desserts made with local chocolate including Tiki's and Hokulani Bakeshop, which were both featured on our blog.  If you are in the mood for something stronger a local brewery is offering chocolate beer and another local company will be making chocolate martinis.  Cheers!
